Modeling is tougher than it looks. I know, I got to be one today. After 3,000 photos and 7 and a half hours, I hope one of them turned out well. The setting of the shoot was something I had been familiar with during my travels around the country. Kim Hummel, the photographer had me wearing a suit in a trailer park. I believe my role was that I lost my stock broker job and moved to a trailer, but still was badass because I had a hot wife. Let me know if I pulled it off….
The hard part was not smiling, just like my Universal Studios job. I was so out of my element that I was trying not to laugh. I usually don’t like to wear suits because it never feels comfortable, but try modeling a suit. I had my whole back stapled, which made it really stiff and difficult to move around and act comfortable. I believe being a model is all about patience and being creative. Every snap shot, you have to come up with slight move. Imagine creating 3,000 slight moves.

And……..I’m in a different culture. No matter how many people suggest that North Carolina is the South, I will not buy it. Sure, there are many communities that are very Southern, but so are communities in California. Once I crossed the border from South to North Carolina, I noticed that people drive erratically. I know this is NASCAR country, but I’m probably the only one that drives the speed limit. I’m a little worried it is only going to get worse as I go north.
Football is to the South as Basketball is to the East. I found some time to visit a YMCA in Charlotte and realized how big basketball is in North Carolina. Although the Charlotte Bobcats haven’t had any success, don’t forget about UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, and many other colleges in the state.
Today, I started working at Directions USA Modeling Agency. I knew it was a competitive industry, but it’s a cat/dog fight these days. I made phone calls to local models to check their availability for a gig 5 hours away. Regardless of paying their own expense, everyone was available, but it’s still up to the client to choose only one from the pool. Also to mention, the clients probably have consulted with other agencies as well, making the pool even larger.

Why did you choose this career to represent North Carolina?
It's a coincidence that I chose to work in the modeling industry the same year Miss America from North Carolina won. After doing research, I found out that modeling is one of the most popular jobs in Charlotte. I also found out that Wrangler and Hanes are based in the state. It's different than tobacco farming and building furniture, but it sounds good.
